Ragging Banned in Campus

Ragging in the campus has been banned in all forms as per the directions of Honorable Supreme Court of India. It has been impressed upon by the Honorable Supreme Court of India that If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student shall be given liberty to explain and if his/her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel him/her from the institution and necessary action as warranted under rules would be taken against any student indulging in practice of ragging in the college campus.

Plantation Drive launched in College

The college has launched a massive plantation drive during current year in which various fruit plants and ornamental were planted in different sites of the campus. The different lawns have been decorated with plantation of flowering plants like Marigold, chrysanthemum, Roses, evergreen, Cyprus, Tagetus, Populus, Tulip, Lilly pansy and China rose etc. Besides this leveling, landscaping and maintenance of college land is under process for further plantation and beautification of campus. It is worth mentioning that as per the initiative and direction of honorable Chief minister Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad, a proud alumni of the college, nearly 200 fruit plants of various species like apple, Cherry, apricot have been planted in the college campus in collaboration with horticulture department.

Establishment of Energy Park

Ministry of New and Renewable energy, Government of India, has sanctioned setting up of district level energy park in our institution. The project envisages installation of renewable energy devices in the proposed energy park like improved Chula, biogas plant, SPV street lights, SPV domestic lights, SPV lanterns, SPV color TV, SPV pump, Solar educational kit, solar cooker, SWHS 200 LPD, solar cabinet dryer, Solar 3 LPD, Blow ups and bromides with the objective to create awareness amongst the student community about the uses and benefits of renewable energy. The park shall be set up during the current financial year.


GDC Bhadarwah organizes a session on "Spreading curse of Narcotic and Drugs consumption amongst Youth"

An extensive lecturer was organized in Govt Degree College Bhadarwah in collaboration with the Excise and Taxation Deptt. In the Lecturer Mr.Ganshanyam Singh E.T.O Doda/ Udhampur range presented a detailed report on the alarmingly spreading curse of Narcotic and Drugs consumption especially amongst the youth in the age group of 15 to 25. Giving details about the number of the victims of this dreadful psychotropic substance, He made it clear that the number of the suffers had crossed the alarming mark of cores in India. He also made it clear that the range and variety of the addiction varied from cigarettes to heavy intoxicants like bhukies, nevala, corex, brown sugar and charas. He also made a detailed mention of the rising crime rate which was the net result of Narcotic and drug consumption. He again pointed out the health hazards which were the result of these intoxicants. He made it clear that the cases of the fatal diseases like cancer, tuberculosis and even mental disorders due to the drugs and narcotic abuse were touching alarming number. Finally he narrated the preventive measures taken by the Govt. and other social organizations for redeeming the society against this heavy curse. Making a mention of the legal provision to combat the drug addiction, he described that how drug traffickers were liable for fine amounting from one to two lakhs and ten years imprisonment under law. The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the students showed a keen interest and discussed issues of vital significance concerning the subject. Earlier Dr. Mohd Iqbal Principal Govt. PG College Bhadarwah extended a warm welcome to the resource person and appreciated his dedication and sincere efforts for creating awareness amongst the masses against this terrible tendency. Emphasizing the need of organizing seminars, debates and similar instructive and informative programmes in the higher educational institutions, he made it clear that these efforts will go a long way in emancipating the society form countless social moral and health hazards. He made a sincere appeal to all the citizens in general and the students in particular to put their sincere efforts in combating the menace. The teaching staff of the college also honoured the occasion with their presence. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Basharat Iqbal (Deptt. of English).

Urdu Mushaira.

12-3-2008: An Urdu Mushaira (Urdu Poets Meet) was organized by the PG Dept. of Urdu of Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) M. Iqbal Zargar, a noted scholar of Urdu language and literature, was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Janab Abdul Jabbar Ganai presided over the proceedings. Many reputed and versatile poets of Urdu language from Bhadarwah, Doda and Kishtwar recited their verses. Those who presented their poems included : Nashad Bhaderwahi, Gulab Sefi, Abdul Salaam Hassan, Tanveer Malik, Rind Bhadarwahi, Sagar Sehrai, Suhail Saddiqui, Sajid Sarmadi, Abdul Jabbar, Hafiz Furqan Abadi and Tamkeen Kishtwari. In his address Dr. Iqbal expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of the event and implored upon the students to learn from and be inspired by the writings of the poets of repute. He hoped that the purpose of the programme shall be achieved when the morale of the students is boosted after interacting and listening to the established and senior poets of the region. The presentations focused on almost all the facets of human life; its stark realities, its loneliness, growing materialistic attitude of the masses and above all, a pray for the peace and brotherhood. All the teaching, non-teaching staff members and the students attended the Mushaira with a great deal of enthusiasm. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Tariq Ahmed Tamkeen, HOD PG Dept. of Urdu of the college.

Commemoration of the birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad

11-11-2008: To commemorate the birth anniversary of Moulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of Independent India and a renowned freedom fighter, a seminar was organized in Govt. PG College Bhadarwah. Several student speakers highlighted various aspects of the life and literary contribution of the late leader besides appreciating his literary role in the freedom of India. On this occasion various prominent figures besides Sub. Divisional Magistrate Bhadarwah expressed their regards for Moulana Abul Kalam Azad. The Principal of the college Dr. Mohd Iqbal concluded the programme highlighting the great personality especially his secular out look. He paid great tribute to Moulana Azad and his heart felt gratitude to the guests and the participant students. The Principal of the college in his presidential address, expressed the need to learn a lesson of amity, brotherhood secular outlook and moral upliftment from the life and works of late Moulana Azad. On this occasion college news letter "HUMA" was also released by the college Principal in presence of Mr. Kalyan Singh SDM Bhadarwah, college staff and some prominent citizens, in a simple ceremony. The news letter reflects glimpses of the academic, extra academic and development activities of the college which took place during the last two years. The proceeding of the seminar were conducted by Dr. Tariq Tamkaeen HOD of Urdu. The programme ended on a vote of thanks to the chair.

Observation of National Integration Week 2008.

19-11-2008: In connection with the observation of national integration week, NSS unit of GDC Bhaderwah organized week long programme w.e.f. 19-11-08 onwards. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. M. Iqbal Principal of the college. Two days workshop on theme, "Healthy Youth for Healthy India" was held in the college. Inaugural address the Principal threw light on the importance of NSS organization which is working for National Integration and Service of the Nation. He laid stress on the importance of National Integration during the present turbulent and disturbing political scenario of the country. Various NSS volunteers and Teachers of the college also spoke on the occasion. The NSS volunteers who actively participate in making the programme is success included Mr. Randeep, Feroz, Rahilla and others. Prof. Surinder and Prof. Javed Mohi-ud-Din also spoke on the occasion. An extension lecture on disaster management was also organized to acquaint the NSS volunteers and other students to be prepared for helping the masses in such eventualities. The lecture was delivered by Mubassar Hussain I/C Disaster Management Bhaderwah Campus of University of Jammu. The proceeding of the programme were conducted by Dr. T. H. Tamkeen. This week long programme was organized and supervise by Prof. Koushal Kumar Mangotra NSS Programme Officer of the unit. The week long programme concluded on 30-11-08. A colourful cultural programme was also organized on the concluding day.

Workshop on "Computer Aided Teaching Learning"

21-04-2009: A Workshop on "Computer Aided Teaching Learning" was inaugurated at Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah by Dr. Mohd Iqbal Zargar, Principal of the College. Organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, the workshop focused on the enhancement of computer assisted teaching learning by motivating & acquainting the staff and students with the aspects like use of internet and preparation of PPTS In his presidential remarks, Dr. Mohd Iqbal expressed satisfaction over the initiative of IQAC and hoped that the same would continue in future also. He said that the college management is committed for the cause of quality education through ICT. All the depts. have been equipped with computers to facilitate ICT based teaching. He implored upon the staff and students to be the knowledge users in the modern era of information revolution. He hoped that this workshop shall prove fruitful and yield the desired results Prof. Pawanesh Abrol from Dept. of Computer Sciences, University of Jammu was the key note speaker who dwelt at length on the significance of computers in our day to day life and their contribution in the efficient conduct of class work. By presenting various interesting facts of information technology, he motivated the audience to avail the benefit of computers to make their performance more effective. In his presidential remarks, Dr. Mohd. Iqbal expressed satisfaction over the initiave of IQAC and hoped that the same would continue in future also. He said that he college management is committed for the cause of quality education through ICT. All the depts. have been equipped with computers to facilitate ICT based teaching. Earlier the programme began with a welcome note by Prof. Sudhir Singh, Convener IQAC who threw light on the objectives of the workshop and action plan of IQAC. IQAC of GDC Bhadarwah Organizes Introductory Meet

25-05-2009: A "General Orientation cum introduction" program was organized for the freshers i.e. students of B.A/B.Sc/B.Com Part -I by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah. The purpose of the programme was to introduce the students to various constituent unit of the college and their functions like NSS, NCC, Dept. of Students Welfare, Nature club, IQAC, Grievance Redressal cell etc. and motivate them for their optimum involvement in the implementation of new programs which are imperative for the college development, students' service progression and creating a conducive atmosphere for smooth conduct of teaching-learning.
Principal of the college and Chairperson IQAC Dr. Mohd. Iqbal presided over the programme. In his address. he after extending a warm welcome to the freshers, gave detailed information to the students regarding the functions and strategies of the college. He urged them to be consciously active learners of and pass out as responsible citizens. He emphasized the maintenance of discipline to the students and judicious choice of admission in recently introduced Add-on courses. Earlier, the welcome note was presented by Prof. Sudhir Singh, Convener IQAC. Other who spoke on occasion include Prof. Lekh Raj-Staff Secretary and Coordinator Add-on courses and Prof. K.K Mangotra, NSS Officer. The prominent among other present were Prof. Suresh Kumar, Prof. Umer Din, Prof. Ajay Didwal, Prof, B.P Singh, Prof. Talat Ali Khan & Sh. Sudesh Kumar, PTI. Prof. Vipul Saraf was the organizer of the program. Almost all the students of BA/BSc/Bcom-Part-I were enthusiastically present on this occasion

Symposium on "Environmental Awareness"

8-06-2009: GDC. Bhadarwah in collaboration with Directorate of Ecology, Environmental and Remote Sensing, Jammu organized an Environmental Awareness Programme . Mr. R.C Sharma Deputy. Conservator of forests and Environment, Mrs. Manju Sharma -Deputy Director Hospitality and Protocol and Uma Sharma- Principal Galaxy College Jammu were also present on this occasion. Students of the college participated in the symposium organized by the college in which Mr. Vishal Sawhny, Mr. Barqat Ali and Ms. Nahida Malik were adjudged as 1st. ,2nd and 3rd respectively. The symposia was highly informative and an eye opener about deterioration of environment. The views of the youth were highly appreciated by the judges and the guest. Mr. R.C Sharma highlighted the various burning issues regarding environment. Mrs. Uma Sharma emphasized to mend our ways of life and be more vigilant towards the environment. Dr. M. Iqbal Zargar, Principal of the College stressed upon the need to be more practical in our approach. He was of the opinion that our environment has become very fragile. He called upon the youth of the college to come forward and to be torch bearer towards the spread of environmental awareness. Prof. Mohd. Naseem compared the programme, while the vote of thanks was given by Prof. Davinder Kumar.

GDC Bhadarwah organizes a seminar on "Stress Management and Value Education"

27.07.2009: A Seminar on "Stress Management and Value Education" was organized by Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah in collaboration with Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalya. Prof. (Dr.) Mohd, Iqbal, Principal of the college was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas Sh. Kalyan Singh, SDM Bhaderwah, and Sh. T.R Katoch, Addl. SP Bhaderwah were the guests of honor. The keynote address was delivered by B.K Ravinder, Executive member, Rural Development wing, Raj yoga Education and Research Foundation. He stressed on time management, concentration, positive attitude and sound judgement to relieve students of stress. The relevance of action and appropriate decision making coupled with the knowledge of the self is another factor for a happy living. B.K Sudershan Didi in her presentation spoke about 'know thyself and uproot stress'principle. She said that tension emerges from the lack of attention. Timely execution of a job minimizes the stress factors. Sh. Kalyan Singh SDM Bhadarwah spoke on stress management in administration. Emphasizing the action -oriented stress management technique coupled with a humanitarian touch, he implored upon the youth to set targets in consonance with the resources and capacity. In his address, Sh. T.R Katoch also touched various factors responsible for stress in the youth. In his presidential address, Dr. Iqbal, expressed satisfaction over the level of deliberations held in the seminar and hoped that the students may benefit from the advice of the speakers. He said that human aspirations are too high to achieve. The material advancement has failed to provide happiness to man. Lack of introspection, divorcing spirituality and erosion of values have further alienated man from man which, again, is a cause of stress. He advocated the purity of thought &action in a student life for a stress-free existence in the world. B.K Rumal Singh proposed the vote of thanks. Prof. Basharat Iqbal & Prof. Sudhir Singh conducted the proceedings.

GDC Bhadarwah Organizes a Session on "BANKING AS A CAREER OPTION"

28-07-2009: A career counseling session on "Banking as a Career Option" was organized by the Career Counseling Guidance and Placement Cell of Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah. Sh. Subhash Manhas, a Bank Officer from the J&K Bank Ltd. was the resource person. He dwelt at length on the banking system, functioning of banks, recruitment process, banking background, pay structure, hierarchy, job prospects in banks, especially J&K Bank. He also discussed in detail about the importance of reasoning for a bank employee. The session was interactive in nature where students were found freely interacting with the resource person. Principal of the college Dr. M. Iqbal expressed satisfaction over the initiatives of Career Counseling Unit of the college and hoped that more such activities are conducted in future. He also appreciated the contribution of Sh. Subhash Manhas who is coincidently an alumnus of the college. Earlier the programme started with a welcome note by Prof. Sudhir Singh, Convener IQAC, Prof. Vipul Saraf convener Counseling Cell organized the session and presented a vote of thanks. Others who were present include Prof. Basharat Iqbal, Prof. D. S. Manhas, Prof. Lalit Gaind, Prof. Tarsem, Prof. Surinder, Prof. Gurdyal, Prof. Rajesh, and Sh. Sudesh Kumar.

GDC Bhadarwah organizes a lecture on "Preventing Swine Flu"

31-08-2009: A lecture on "Preventing Swine Flu was organized by Govt. Degree College Bhadarwah in the college premises for the students of the college. The objective of this program was to disseminate information on "Swine Flu" that has claimed so many lives the world over. Dr. Javed Iqbal Thakur, Block Medical Officer Bhadarwah was the resource person who dwelt at length on various aspects of swine flu and the fear psychosis associated with it. He categorically pointed out that the disease is not fatal but can be completely cured even by observing the preventive measures at the preliminary stages. Outlining the symptoms of H1N1 virus, he said that patients should know to distinguish it from the common flu. Such distinguishing features are severe breathlessness, body aches, high grade persistent fever, exhaustion, dry hacking cough vomiting etc. Patients suffering from H1N1 need intensive care and are admitted in Isolation centre at Jammu. Precautions like proper hand wash, avoiding crowded places, use of N-90, N-95 masks etc may help preventing this disease. Earlier, Dr. Mohd Iqbal Principal of the college highlighted the importance of knowing a disease for preventing it. He said that spreading awareness and information through 'young ambassadors' may prove an effective tool for handling any disease. All the students and staff attended the lecture. Awareness posters were also displayed at various spots of the campus. Prof. Basharat Iqbal presented vote of thanks. Dr. Tariq Tamkeen conducted the program.
